Tell us about the location you chose for your SUNLOUNGER short story… I chose Sydney, Australia because I lived there back in ‘the good old days’ when I spent my days lounging in the Botanical gardens working hard as a journalist for Cosmopolitan magazine. I wrote the Sex and the Cosmo girl column at the time and I considered it ‘research’ sitting looking out at the Harbour Bridge and watching those Aussie surfers run past.
Have your books featured any exotic destinations? My latest novel SOMEBODY ELSE’S SHOES has the main character jetting off to New York fashion week. (Fashion Week Publicists – yes I would love an invite. Front row? Next to Wintour?)
If you could live anywhere in the world… I’d love to live in Rome, wear huge sunglasses and eat pasta day and night. I’d get very fat but hey ho.
Destination you’ve returned to the most times? Verbier in Switzerland. It was where I met my boyfriend Patrick and where (5 years later) we got engaged. It is also the one place I can regress back to being a student and drink jaegerbombs with wild abandon.
Tickets, passport, money and… My cat Rooski. Yes, yes I know IT’S A CAT but she travels everywhere with me. When I returned to the UK from Sydney I knew she had to come back with me. Her flight home cost more than mine! But what other cat could say she’s lived in 5 different places? (You want me to list them? Okay, she has lived in Sydney, Edinburgh, London, Ibiza and Switzerland.)
Favourite cuisine from around the world? Cheese Fondue with tomatoes. Or Cheese Fondue with Chantilly mushrooms. Or Cheese fondue with champagne. Or just plain cheese fondue. I like Fondue.
Favourite holiday cocktail? Lychee Martini. Can I have one now?
What was your best and worst holiday romance? Remember that singer called Kavana? I met him in Spain when I was about 17 and he took me out for dinner. I was completely starstruck – couldn’t speak throughout the entire meal. Then we went to a club and he snogged his backing dancer.
